Default nvidia driver + suspend2

Hi,

I was trying to get hibernating with nvidia driver working for a longer time, but now it seems hopeless. I read a lot of discussions in this topic, but nothing helped me.

I have a gentoo (suspend2-sources) 2.6.13 kernel with Softare Suspend 2.2-rc6 on a Compq Presario Athlon-xp notebook with Nvidia GeForce4 Go 420 32 MB Graphics card. I tried multiple versions of the nvidia driver ( 6629, 7667, 7676, 8178 ) for my X window 6.8.2. The best result was, that the machine suspend OK, and after power-on it resumed, just the screen remained black. Keyboard control and everything else was OK, even mpg123 continued playing. I use vesafb + fbsplash, but tried also vesafb-tng.

I was playing a little bit with the sources of the nvidia driver, tried to get some debug output. I realized, that the nvidia module recognizes the PM_SUSPEND* messages correctly, after the inserted case statement in nv.c ( http://wiki.suspend2.net/DistroAndHardwareSetup/Nvidia ).

Other kernel versions usualy end up in kernel panic.

When using the nv driver instead of nvidia, everything is going allright, the system resumes back into the graphics console.

I will appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Default Re: nvidia driver + suspend2

I figured out it shouldn't be a conflict between the nvidia module and the framebuffer. I tried to make suspend / resume cycle with the framebuffer disabled and the result was the same - black screen again.
