I have a 6200 card & am using the 7676 driver version on my Myth FE box.
Works great except in 1080i mode where the screen appears split and flopped (left half is on the right & vis-versa). At what version did this bug appear? Im trying to figure out what version I should use. Various archives show that this works with the 6629, but that predates the 6200 support. Will 6629 work with my 6200? Thanks in advance for any guidance... -l |

1080i works fine for me using 7676 with DVI output to an HDTV. I havn't tried this through svideo or composite, and my particular card doesn't have component out.
How are you connecting to TV? |

I am still testing this directly connected to a monitor via the VGA connector.
I plan on using the component out (TV has only component in) to my HD set once I get this sorted out. I thought I was on the home stretch here (Myth works, my homebrew LIRC interface is working, and my SPDIF interface board is built & ready to go), but without 1080i it just is not there yet. |

I am very interested in the answer as well. I have a 6600GT with component output and I had hoped to use this card with MythTV. It is a Gigabyte and was advertised as doing HDTV.

My understanding is that composite output uses a seperate output chip than DVI output on the NVIDIA cards making its interlaced output work with the linux drivers. Interlaced output however only works on one of the 6xxx series drivers(I forget which) for the DVI port.
It would be nice to be able to do a true ATSC 1080i modeline via the DVI output using a newer driver release, but the boys'n'girls writing nvidia's linux driver need to fix it. |

Ok, so I tried using the 6629 driver and it hangs. I'm pretty sure that this is because the 6200 chips aren't supported until the 7xxx series drivers.
That means what I need is a card that is supported by the 6629 driver that has component output (and preferably is fanless). Anyone know of such a beast? -l |

I have been able to get the latest version of the driver to work in 1080i, with the exception of very very serious overscan issues. I also have been able to get this driver to work with 480p. This is all via component.

Josh, you are right!
Now that the latest driver (8178) is avalible for gentoo, I emerged it, fired it up, and sure enough I can do 1080i without the split screen bug. I have no idea of how overscanned it is yet, but the last my last piece is in place, so the box goes down to be connected to the HD set tommorow. I'll find out about any overscan then. To sum up the answers to the questions in this thread: the 6299 driver doesn't support the Geforce 6200 series cards, the swap/screen in interlaced mode bug started in the driver version following 6299, and has apparently been fixed in the new 8178 driver. Looks like I picked just the right time to be working on this. Had I been doing this a month ago, I would have hit a wall... Thanks for all the help! -l |

I'd even be satified with a solution at the X server-level change that would allow me to define a subscreen in the right position. I tried Xnest, which works, but you lose xv and glx in the xnest ![]() |

To fix the overscan issue, try defining a modeline that only uses part of the full resolution. For example, construct a modeline that uses 1728x972 instead of 1920x1080. Such an approach should work with component out but probably not DVI or VGA.
To fix overscan for DVI or VGA you should use most of the same timings as the 1920x1080 modline, but just use the central part of the screen. Read about what each of the numbers in the modeline represent and it will become clear how to construct such a modeline. |

You could possibly use xvidtune to adjust the overscan(don't have a HDTV)
