Just stumped (first time on Linux)

I did make a mistake, I am at 800X600 but that is not the limit on my CRT. It is 1280X1080 (forgot the exact number will check in alittle bit). So ya, I wanted something way greater. I am using an nVidia 5200 FX. I still have WinXP loaded so I'll check to see what the highest res. I can get.

You need to edit your X configuration to specify the resolution you desire. If you need help, please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and post a new bug report.

I do not know how to edit the X Config (hence I am new to Linux). I did type in startx -- -logverbose 5 in the Root Terminal and I got this:

Using authority file /tmp/libgksu1.2-4O4fc6/.Xauthority

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.
