Default FX5200 Inno3D 128MB on slack10.2 - not working?

hello every one,

just, and appositely, joined this forum to find some help on how to get my brand-new FX520 Inno3D 128MB nVidiaa card to work - I run slackware10.2, default kernel (2.4.xx) on a pentiumII Xeon box - the motherboard is also Intel MS440GX and got loads ram and loads sapce on /dev/hda/ - when i tried to install the nVidia drivers for the FX5200 (sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8178-pkg1.run) everything appeared to be fine - however when i launched 'startx' the nVidia' screen flashed super fast and then it returned a console screen (non-X screen) with the following message:

Module Loader Present

(==) Log File: "/var/log/Xorg.0.org", Time: Fri Jan 27 19:30:39 2006
(++) Using Config File: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

please consult... bla bla bla bla .........

X10: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0
after o requests (0 uknown processed) with 0 events remaining.

Any techie folks out there who knows what all that means? but even worse is that even if i try to restore the '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file ... X won't start anymore and so far I havent found a way to over-take this problem (well the first time I gave up and reinstalled everything again since it's a new machine, but now I won't give up easily again and will try to make this work) - pls help me!

any advice/suggestions will be very much appreciated
