Default NX6600 GT under SuSe 9.1

Hi All,

I need help!

I've changed my video card, previously I had a FX5600 now I've installed a NX6600 GT. The problem is that X fails to start (I only can see a black screen).

I've tried to install the 8178, but during the install I've recived the following error message:

ERROR: The kernel header file
'/lib/modules/2.6.5-7.201-smp/build/include/linux/kernel.h' does not
exist. The most likely reason for this is that the kernel source path
'/lib/modules/2.6.5-7.201-smp/build' is incorrect. Please make sure you
have installed the kernel source files for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux
systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' rpm
installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed,
you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path'
commandline option.

I'm not a linux expert (ok I'm totally beginner), so I have no idea how to solve this problem.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Bye

Hi,

as it says: install the sources of your running kernel.

If it is suse, open yast and the packet managment and look for them. You can use the search function. Install them and retry.

Thank you Energyman, you helped a lot!

My only problem now that I can't find the 6600 card in a list, I've set another nVidia and it's works.

So now I'm writing this reply from SuSe, so I'm happy.

Thank you again!

Have a nice day!

bye.

Hi,

you do not need to know the exact nvidia card, the driver is always the same 'nvidia'. The name is just that sax is able to set some names 'properly'. But ia very much not needed
