Unhappy Redhat Enterprise 4 Install problems

Hi,

I'm a real novice at linux, so please spell things out for me. I'm not having any luck installing the nvidia drivers on my machine. When I run the install file, it complains and wants to re-compile things. This proceed and then it fails while complaining about an 'nvidia.ko' file. Specificaly, it says:

"Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source files.
Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your
kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems,
for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' RPM installed. If you
know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the
kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option."

I've got the full install from Redhat, so I have no idea why it would complain about the kernel source. I even went and installed the kernel source, but this made no difference.

I'm attaching the log file. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.nvidia-installer.log

Default Re: Redhat Enterprise 4 Install problems

Here's the problem:
#####
WARNING: The NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro GPU installed in this system is
supported through the NVIDIA Legacy drivers. Please visit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more information. The
1.0-8178 NVIDIA driver will ignore this GPU.
#####

You need to install 1.0-7174 with the legacy videocard you're using.

Thanks,
Lonni

Smile Re: Redhat Enterprise 4 Install problems

Cool. This did it. I had thought about trying an earlier driver, but couldn't find them. This incentivized me to look harder, and I found one, installed it, and it worked.

Thanks Lonni, for the really fast response.
