Default Re: GeForce MX 440 on AMD64 big troubles

Did you try the debian packages of the nvidia drivers?
Otherwise you might check to see if there are any files placed in /lib64, /usr/lib64, /usr/X11R6/lib64/ or /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/drivers/

IIRC the debian amd64 port puts 64bits libs in .../lib and 32bits libs in .../lib32. Some other distros use .../lib64 for 64bit and .../lib for 32 bits libs.
I do know that ATIs 64bit drivers didn't behave correctly (according to debian) and put the X driver module in /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/drivers/ where the (debianized) X server doesn't look.
Computer stuff I've owned at one time or another:
CPUs: K6-3 400, Duron 600, Thunderbird 1400, Barton 2500, Duron 1800, A-64 3700+, C2D E7200
Motherboards: Shuttle Via MVP, Asus A7V, Asus A7V133, Asus N8X-VM400, Abit NF7, Abit UL8, Asus P5Q Pro
Graphics Cards: TNT2, GF 2 MX, GF 2 Pro, GF4 MX, GF FX 5500, GF 6600, GF 7600 GT, GF 9800GT

well i tried the debian way of installing the nvidia drivers acording to the manual given on:
but it did not work for me. i got the same results as installing them from the nvidia installer a black screen! and jep, the debian install way also destrys some links so that the libGL.so dont work with the nv driver!

the last 5 nights i tried a lot of stuff include reinstalling the hole system 5 times.
by now i am back to the nvidia installer way, i ran the 1.0-8178 i think the librarys a installed correct:

nativa:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers# file nvidia_drv.o
nvidia_drv.o: ELF 64-bit LSB relocatable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped
nativa:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers# file nvidia_drv.so
nvidia_drv.so: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped

i'm also able to load the module with modprobe an find it with lsmod:

nativa:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers# modprobe nvidia
nativa:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers# lsmod | grep nvidia
nvidia 4853012 0
nativa:/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers# tail /var/log/messages

but as said bevor when i launch the X.org with the nvidia module i get the black screen.
can this be a result of a wrong AGP configuration? i have not done anything spezial for it, just running an regular debian kernel 2.6.15-1-amd64-generic.

the /proc info for the nvidia driver is:
nativa:/# cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Not Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000017:0x00000000
nativa:/# cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/host-bridge
Host Bridge: PCI device 10de:00e1
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x00000001
nativa:/# cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Disabled

can it be "the bug" is the Status disabled in the line above?
is it possible that the nvidia driver dont work with 2.6.15-1 ??

the hole nvidia-bug-report.sh output is located at:

hope someone can help me.
