Default Need Linux Driver for GeForce2 GTS

As a preface, I am running SUSE 10.0 with an NV897.0 GeForce2 GTS card.

Im not sure what's going on in the nVidia site. I went through the download drivers dialog that took me to a Linux IA32 driver page. The driver on this page (8178) does not support the GeForce2 GTS. The list excludes it and says to continue to use the Forceware 70 drivers and gives a link...but that link goes RIGHT BACK TO THE SAME 8178 page!

What I am looking for, simply, is the legacy driver that will support this card. Does nVidia still support this or is this driver just SO hidden that one cannot get to it.

Thanks for your help..

Lonni thanx...though, when I click on the "supported products" link on that 7174 page, the GeForce2 GTS is listed as not supported... Im beginning to think that this page is just the same page everywhere.

7174 will support the NV897.0 ???

Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't know what an NV897.0 is, however the GeForce2 GTS is supported by 1.0-7174.

Thanks,
Lonni

Lonni,

I did this process as prescribed by the SUSE site...

1) sudo init 3
2) cd to my path where the 7174 was
3) sh NVIDIA-Linus-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run -q

the package compiled fine

4) sax2 -m 0=nvidia

this failed...with a large output of possible reasons....etc

when I do a modprobe nvidia now I get:

FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.13-15.8-default/kernel/drivers/v ideo/nvidia.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

that seems not good.

The output of the SaX.log too long for this post, Im afraid. But this end may help:

Any ideas???

BTW, is there a patch to use the legacy driver with recent kernels? I also have a geforce2 on an AMD64 machine using 2.6.15.4 kernel...

Well, I'll recheck, but last time I installed the gentoo version (whcih uses afaik the latest patches) it didn't work with .15 kernel due to the vmalloc(?) change.
