I was just cracked a few days ago and had netwatcher up by chance. It looked like the cracker was trying to plant a virus, and all i could think is cut the isp connection, and didn't even log the event(Aww crap). It happened when i was here browsing this site, and i was wondering if anyone knew about free firewalls. I really need the best firewall for free(NO Warez). Please PM me.

Once you get sygate installed, you may want to check out zerodata's bad ip list

Read this article to see why Black Ice is a bad idea: http://grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm
If you care about outbound traffic. I only care about hackers attacking me, not the fact that a program I'm running has tried to connect to the internet.

If you're worried about Viruses, Spyware, Trojans and other nasty stuff be more careful about what you download and run.

i love Zone Alarm cause it monitors outbound traffic.......once i got virus, my anti-virus software didn't see it, but ZoneAlarm blocked it,notifyed me and i was able to clean it......

and about spyware........i just had worse experience with Gozzila, damn them.......u can read in other thread about it.

Well if you don't want to take preventive action then you may as well not have a firewall at all. The point is to find something that totally secures your system, which means securing both the downstream and the upstream.

ZoneAlarm and Sygate are two Free alternatives to Black Ice that have every type of protection you need and then some.

You are more likely to be the victim of a trojan or worm than you are to be the specific target of a hacker.

Even legit software like Windows Media Player 9 sends a mini software audit from your machine to Microsoft without your knowledge.

By the way, I prefer ZoneAlarm. The only annoying thing is that is doesn't uninstall very well.
