Default "nvidia" driver gives 75MHz refresh rate, while "nv" gives 85MHz

The "nv" driver gives me 85Hz refresh on 1920x1440 display mode, while
"nvidia" is limited to 75Hz. I have tried to disable all the EDID stuff,
and the log shows:

(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "IgnoreEDID" "true"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "UseEdidFreqs" "false"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Using HorizSync/VertRefresh ranges from the EDID has been
(**) NVIDIA(0): disabled on all display devices.
(--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce4 MX 440 at PCI:1:0:0:
(--) NVIDIA(0): HP P1130 (CRT-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): HP P1130 (CRT-0): 350 MHz maximum pixel clock

This is with 8756 and 8178.

The only thing I change in xorg.conf is Driver "nv" vs. Driver "nvidia".

Any ideas?

If you know for sure the parameters/modes your monitor can handle, use the gtf program and insert them into your X config.

try edit xorg.conf,add:
.......
Section "Screen"
Option "UseEDID" "FALSE" #here
option "UseEDIDFreqs" "FALSE" #here
option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE" #here
option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes" #here
Identifier "Screen0"
.....

I currently have
Option "UseEdidFreqs" "FALSE"
Option "NoBandWidthTest" "FALSE"
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "TRUE"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes, NoMaxPClkCheck, NoVertRefreshCheck, NoHorizSyncCheck, NoEdidMaxPClkCheck"
(Tried UseEDID" "FALSE" and a few other as well.)

None of that seems to do anything. "nvidia" driver also does not react to the custom modelines such as

Modeline "1920x1440" 328 1920 2072 2288 2656 1440 1441 1444 1512 -hsync +vsync

which gives 82Hz with the "nv" driver.

The Xorg logs:
http://iki.fi/v/tmp/vf/Xorg.log.nvidia (nvidia driver)
http://iki.fi/v/tmp/vf/Xorg.log.nv (nv driver)

According to that, nvidia driver at least sees the options:
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "UseEdidFreqs" "FALSE"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "NoBandWidthTest" "TRUE"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "TRUE"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes, NoMaxPClkCheck, NoVertRefreshCheck, NoHorizSyncCheck, NoEdidMaxPClkCheck"
(--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce4 MX 440 at PCI:1:0:0:
(--) NVIDIA(0): HP P1130 (CRT-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): HP P1130 (CRT-0): 350 MHz maximum pixel clock
(II) NVIDIA(0): Mode Validation Overrides for HP P1130 (CRT-0):
(II) NVIDIA(0): NoMaxPClkCheck
(II) NVIDIA(0): NoEdidMaxPClkCheck
(II) NVIDIA(0): NoHorizSyncCheck
(II) NVIDIA(0): NoVertRefreshCheck
(II) NVIDIA(0): NoEdidModes

If you start X with 'logverbose 6' parameter, it will give you a lot of info about modes, i.e. which modes are tested, and if and why they are rejected.

vherva,
Have you tried requesting the 1920x1440_85 mode in your X configuration? If so, then please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log

Thanks,
Lonni

I just read the other thread and experimented a bit. Renaming the Modeline to 1920x1440@85 and seeting these:
Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "FALSE"
Option "NoBandWidthTest" "TRUE"
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "TRUE"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes, NoMaxPClkCheck, NoVertRefreshCheck, NoHorizSyncCheck, NoEdidMaxPClkCheck"

In deed fixes it. Thanks.
