Default X fails to load glx with nvidia driver - persistant error

Hi guys, still have problems with my setup.
It runs sweet with only one screen and the nvidia driver in the xorg.conf file. As soon as i go multi screen it crashes without an error, just failing to load the glx extension. My multi screen setup works fine with the nv driver running. However i really need glx and opengl.

Setup:
Slackware 10.2, Kernel 2.4.31, Geforce 4 440 MX, Using the 8174 driver.. problem occurs with other version too.

I have attached the xorg log and my nvidia bug report.

I have even tried the nvidia xorg.conf configuration thingo. All it does is replace every driver in my conf with nvidia, it loads up fine without any of my other screens. As soon as i replace the other 2 graphics cards with their appropriate driver the server crashes... Is there confict???

Here is my xorg.conf

You've got a rather odd setup, with an ATI card, a Cirrus card, and an NVIDIA card? Do you really have all three vendor's videocards in the same system at the same time?

yeah i do... but that's not the issue, i don't think. I have a friend running virtually the same setup with everything working.
Even if i run only 2 cards My geforce and my ati it stuffs up. I have a whole bunch of 4-8meg cards that i've been cycling through. All of them work fine in either a dual or triple screen setup when i use the nv driver for my geforce....

X just dies as soon as i enable the nvidia driver....

any idea's... can you guys see any problem with my nvidia bug report ??

Thanks

Does this also reproduce with 1.0-8178?
If you comment out the glx module, does X start?
If you remove the ATI card or the Cirrus card, does that have any impact?
What is the difference between your friend's setup and your's?

Hi, sorry about the delay.

If I comment out the glx module. Everything starts fine with the nvidia driver in place.

It doesnt have any problems with the ati and/or cirrus cards whether they are in or out. It's this dual screen problem.... Everytime i need glx i have to shutdown X and restart it with a single monitor setup, i dont need to remove any hardware.

The differences between my friends setup and mine are the fact that he is using a voodoo 3 and most importantly an old TNT2 M64 he's using a completely different nvidia driver....

I've tried this setup now by replacing the ati card with a S3 card.. still crashes on GLX initialization...

It's so weird not to have the log tell me anyreason why glx hasn't loaded...

as for the latest driver.. will install that later... but i doubt it's the problem

Please verify whether this reproduces with 1.0-8756, and if so, post an updated bug report.

Thanks,
Lonni

Ok works perfectly with the latest driver if i disable glx. I am running it with glx at the moment. Still doesn't help me though, i really would like glx to work.

I've attached the newest bug report and xorglog.txt

So nothing has changed apart fromt the fact that i'm using the latest driver.

Regards
Josh

We currently have a bug open for a variant of this problem (when using two different X drivers (nvidia, plus another), glx was silently failing to work, however X wasn't crashing. That bug number is 194134.

Have you been able to isolate whether removing the Cirrus or ATI cards from the equation has any impact on this?

Most certainly. As soon as the cards are removed it's fine.
However it is also fine with the cards in place just not specified in the Xorg.conf

So i can have a whole heap of graphics cards if i want but as soon as i specify multiple ones in the xorg.conf... my nvidia driver crashes...

It's running with dri at the moment... just so that i can have some sort of acceleration...

Any chance of so sort of fix??? or is way off?

cheers

Actually, what I was asking was whether you see this problem starting X with just the NVIDIA + Cirrus card or just the NVIDIA + ATI card, or if its only present with all 3 in use in X?

This bug has fairly low priority as compared to other open bugs. I couldn't speculate on how soon it would be fixed.

Thanks,
Lonni
