Unhappy TwinView messed up - behaves different than yesterday

Hi!

I think I've made a quite big mistake ... I cleaned out my /tmp directory and now TwinView behaves not the same anymore. (at least I think it's because I deleted all files and directories in /tmp)

before: XFCE recognized 2 monitors and I was able to select different wallpapers for both. Turning on fullscreen mode for the terminal or (and that's the important think) tvtime used only one monitor.

now: The 2 monitors are "gone" and only recognized as one big monitor. Fullscreen uses both monitors, but the video from tvtime is only visible on the first monitor (my CRT). That's

I'm using a Geforce 6600GT (AGP) with one CRT and one TFT, the current 1.0.8178 drivers and Gentoo as Linux distri (kernel 2.6.15).

Please help me to get back the previous and prefered behavior of TwinView.

p.s.
the nvidia-bug-report.log contains the xorg.conf I've used and a Xorg.log. Unfortunately I don not have an older xorg.log to compare them

When that is the reason, a reboot should fix it.

It did not.

I don't know what else could have done this. I can't remeber that I updated things related to xorg or XFCE.

It sounds like X did not load the emulated Xinerama extension for twinview.

Try deleting/commenting the line
Code:
	Option	"Xinerama"	"false"
out of your ServerFlags Section.

This wouldn't be related to cleaning out /tmp though. It's weird because your log file says XINERAMA was loaded.

Did not worked

It must be about 6 months ago (or longer) when I had set NoTwinViewXineramaInfo to true, that it looked the same - both monitors where recognized as one.
Now, I can set NoTwinViewXineramaInfo to true or false and the only difference is that the tvtime video output is centered (left half is visible on the CRT and the right half on the TFT).

But if it wasn't cleaning out /tmp, what else could it be?

Still the same with the new 1.0-8756 driver.

Try removing the ConnectedMonitor option (its not meant for the purpose that you're using it), and test again. If the problem persists, please start X with the following command:
startx -- logverbose 6

and then generate and post a new bug report.

Thanks,
Lonni

Removing the ConnectedMonitor option did not worked. I've used because my was also connected (as 3rd device). But than only the first display would be used, because 3 devices are found but only 2 are allowed.

Frome the new bug report logfile:
Quote:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to find all display devices requested in TwinView
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Orientation string "DFP-0 RightOf CRT-1".
Thanks for your help, Lonni.

This bug report was not generated after running the startx command that I provided.

The ConnectedMonitor option is not designed to instruct the driver which display device(s) to use. If you need that functionality, then you should use the UseDisplayDevice option (see the driver README for more information).

I don't see anything wrong in your latest bug report. TwinView is providing an X screen running at 2560x1024. You can disable the Xinerama extension provided by TwinView by adding the NoTwinViewXineramaInfo option to your X configuration.

Thanks,
Lonni

Talking Re: TwinView messed up - behaves different than yesterday

I re-compiled all xorg related packages yesterday and now everything works fine again.

Thanks for your help.
