Default Drivers 1.0-8756 & 7900GT

Hello!

It seems that I have some issues with driver 1.0-8756 and my Asus 7900 GT TOP card: I experience frequent (as in after 3 minutes after boot), but random freezes. Pressing the reset button is the only way out... These freezes occurs during normal work, i.e. nothing 3D intensive, only web browsing and terminal work.

I don't think that this is due to a bad card, since the same machine used under Windows does not show these problems (even under intensive 3D workloads).

I've fallen back to VESA drivers, and here no problem: no more crashes. I've already tried with the latest kernel (well not exactly latest: 16.6.2, but close enough ), and with various combinations of noapic and acpi=off boot options, but the problem persists.

As soon as I'm back to my machine I'll post an nvidia-bug-report output. If any other informations are needed, just ask!

thank you!

PS: I've tried with the following Linux distribution, always with the same result:

- Kubuntu (Breezy)
- Debian testing

Do you have an AMD cpu? They are more picky about ram so run memtest86. Also check your logs and use magic sysrq keys here.

Yup, memtest shows a certain amount of errors...

I will RMA the RAM, since it is clearly defective (I've built two other machines, very similar, but they did not show these problems)...

guess my usual bad luck
