Hi,
Both XGL (from Novell) and AIGLX (from RedHat) have been receiving a lot of attention lately, and promise to enhance X11 with some cool effects (some really superfluous IMHO, but some like menu and window shadows are cool). At least AIGLX claims NVIDIA cards are not supported: "Known not to work: nVidia: Any. No open DRI driver. Closed driver support coming soon though." http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Render...bc0d1571cface1 Maybe XGL faces similar problems. Is NVIDIA working to fully support the next generation of X11, whichever it will be? Best, Andre |

Xgl with compiz was running nicely on my laptop with a Geforce FX 6800 go, but glxinfo showed that many extensions of opengl 1.5 / 2.0 were missing and the renderer string contained something with SGI 1.2 and 2.0 and 1.0.8187 in brackets. Seems as if inside Xgl clients had access to mesa only or something - does anyone know better?

GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap needed for AIGLX. Hopefully we'll get it in a few weeks with the refresh, but (hope not) more likely in the next driver, in a few weeks plus four months.
![]() I'll be trying XGL myself over the next few days.

GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap will not be included in the nvidia X driver until the spec has been finalized. This will most likely occur in the first 1.0-9xxx driver release.
Thanks, Lonni |

It seems most cards are supported for XGL look at this list. If you want to get it working you can try this howto but its really for Gentoo users.
