@nvDenver: check your `modprobe` configuration file for an nvidia_1_0_8178 alias entry and/or check if there are any third-party NVIDIA driver packages installed. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver neither installs nor requires this alias.

Thanks zander - That fixed the problem. Those modprobe lines must have appeared from a previous attempt at installing an RPM... Thanks again!

I've been stuck on this problem for a couple of days now. I'm very unimpressed. I've applied the patches, installed the various packages that are recommended throughout all of these posts and tried all sorts of things to get this driver working on FC5.
Fix one error and the driver just causes another. I know it's not the fault of the nvidia guys on here, who have been very helpful, but the team who write the drivers should really do better to be honest. I think I'm either going to send back my graphics card for a refund or wait until the next driver release. |

In your log I see:
-> Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. nvidia: Unknown symbol print_tainted What is the output from the following commands: uname -a rpm -qa | grep kernel ls -l /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ cat /etc/modprobe.conf Thanks, Lonni |

Apologies for the negative tone of my last post...
netllama advised me to upgrade to the latest release of the kernel, 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5. The installer then worked when provided with --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/kernels/2.6.16-1.2080_FC5-x86_64 and my nvidia card is now running fine. Many thanks, Paul. www.paulfeakins.co.uk |

Paul,
In the bug report that you had sent me, you were still running the previous '2054' kernel. Had you booted into the 2080 kernel, you wouldn't have needed to provide the --kernel-source-path variable when installing the nvidia driver. Thanks, Lonni |
