Question 1.0-8756 refresh rate problem

After upgrading to 1.0-8756 drivers, I can't set my Samsumg Syncmaster 970p
LCD panel to 60Hz on Gnome.

Code:
Section "Device"
        Identifier "NVIDIA Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4200]"
        Driver "nvidia"
        BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
        Screen 0
        Option "RenderAccel" "true"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "SyncMaster"
        Option "DPMS"
        HorizSync 30-81
        VertRefresh 56-75
EndSection
I could set 60Hz with earlier drivers and with current 'nv' driver too, but
with latest official drivers - There's no selection for this. Only 75Hz is available.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log looks okay, no errors.

You'll see this very muchly in these forums....

run startx -- -logverbose 5 and then zip the log file and post it here.

You'll need to request either the 1280x1024_60_0 or nvidia-auto-select modes in your xorg.conf, if you want 1280x1024@60Hz. Please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log if you have additional questions or problems.

Thanks,
Lonni

requesting 1280x1024_60 mode works, thanks!

I guess something has changed on how modes are validated or mode pool is
constructed on these drivers compared to prior ones.

Lightbulb Re: 1.0-8756 refresh rate problem

Question is roughly :

On a CRT monitor it seems that with the new 8756 driver suddenly the refesh rate is reduced to a lower value, even while I have a special ModeLine that specifies the refresh rate I want to use and that already worked fine for years.
It just seems as if the ModeLine is completely ignored now.

I tried the options

Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "FALSE"
Option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"

but with no appearant effect.

Answer is roughly :

If you want to use manual ModeLines in the Screen section they should NOT have the same name as a valid VESA mode !!!! In the past this seemed to work more or less, but now it goes wrong.

You just have to change :
Modeline "1280x1024" 130.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync
Into a unique name something like :
Modeline "1280x1024c" 130.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync

and change it also in the Modes line in the Screen section and everything works
fine again !

So for the example above :
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" "400x300" "320x240"
becomes
Modes "1280x1024c" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" "400x300" "320x240"

Hi,

thoug I tried several times, I just cant get the new driver to work properly.
I don't know if my problem is the same but I think so.

The resolution is very small something about 800*600 or even below, altough I configured everything right in yast. (Suse 10.1 RC1).

Somewhere else I've read that Horizontal and Refresh Rate have to be defined as Options in in xorg.conf in order to work with the new driver. but also this doesn't fix my problem. And as I just said also your solution doesnt work for me.

I enclose a copy of my xorg.conf ---> http://phpfi.com/114600
Thx very much for helping.
CowClaw.
