Geforce MX440SE, xorg 6.8.2, linux 2.6.16.9
I get occasional X crashes - cpu 99% (kill -9 X from a ssh is the only way out, then a reboot as monitor is garbled and keyboard input goes AWOL), while using google map satellite images. The only error log is this in syslog: NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 6, PE0000 0548 ff474749 1f464548 00000000 ff434047 This has happened on at least the last 3 released Linux nVidia drivers. I am starting to get fed-up with it now - I don't mind a crash now and then, but when it locks the whole system up it is useless. Nick |

Thanks. I have a few questions:
0) Why are you using the ConnectedMonitor option? 1) Does this reproduce if you set NvAGP to 0 or 1 in xorg.conf? 2) Does this reproduce if you are not using vesafb? 3) What kind of motherboard & BIOS version are you using? Thanks, Lonni |

OK,
0) Please see this thread and my posts to it (Lethe) http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=63773 1) I don't know - I will have to test for you, but seeing as I build monolithic kernel (nvidia is only module), I will have to do a special kernel build to take out AGPGART built in. 2) Again, I do not know - I have always used vesaFB? 3) The mobo is via KT7: 00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8363/8365 [KT133/KM133] (rev 03) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8363/8365 [KT133/KM133 AGP] 00:07.0 ISA bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 [Apollo Super South] (rev 22) 00:07.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C/VT8235 PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 10) 00:07.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6202 [USB 2.0 controller] (rev 10) 00:07.3 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6202 [USB 2.0 controller] (rev 10) 00:07.4 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 [Apollo Super ACPI] (rev 30) I do not know the BIOS version off hand - but it is original, so dates from around 2000. I have just build and install xorg -> X Window System Version 6.9.0 Release Date: 21 December 2005, so I will presist and report back here if I still get this issue. Maybe others that get it too can tack on. Thanks for reply. Nick P.S. I am also on KDE3.5.2 |

Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear.
I got this again, even with new xorg 6.9.0 build and kernel 2.6.16.11: Apr 27 18:47:34 linuxamd kernel: NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 6, PE0000 0338 ff29273f 00000000 ff25233b ff232139 and it appears to have trashed my monitor too. GUI locked up (KDE3.5.2 built from source). I ssh'ed in, killed X. On return to console it was all garbled, and kaleidoscopic in movement... monitor then started making a whining noise - and on/off button didn't work - I pulled the power cord. Now it is dead as a dodo :-( I am getting worried here now what the hell is going on... Nick |
