Here is a new bug-report.log
I booted as normal - which locked up with the black/white screen as in my previous post. Restarted and booted in recovery mode (console login), and ran the bug-report script. Rebooted using live CD to post this message. Hope there's something useful in there... Thanks |

Just to confirm, you're only having this problem with your new 2.6.16.9 kernel? If so, which kernel were you using previously that didn't trigger this problem?
Thanks, Lonni |

My previous kernel, which was working fine, was 2.6.12-10. I compiled the new kernel and the 8756 driver with gcc 4 Thanks |

If you boot to the working kernel, does glx load again?
Thanks, Lonni |

Just got a new card "XFX Geforce 6800 XT" for my Ubuntu Breezy box. Intalled the lastest driver 8756 downloaded from www.nvidia.com, and using "nvidia-xconfig" to change the "xorg.conf". However the X cannot be started. Part of the xorg.0.log files is shown as follows:
Quote:
It seems the module "nvidia" and "glx" cannot be loaded. "nvidia" IS in /proc/modules and I also added "nvidia" in /etc/modprobe.d/modules. But X still cannot start. Really appreciate if someone can help to fix the problem. |

The bug report generated by "nvidia-bug-report.sh" for my problem, which is the post of http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...244#post877244 is attached as "nvidia-bug-report.zip".
