Default Please help a newbie

Trying to instal the nvidia driver. Followed the sticky not from netlama and performed the update.
I think im missing a very basic step though, when running the installer it stops and says i have x server running .
How do you exit xserver to do the install. I'm running FC5 with newest updates from 4/29

In /etc/inittab, near the top, change the id:5... to id:3... (leave the rest of the line alone). Reboot. After installing the driver, test it with "startx". If it works, change /etc/inittab back to 5 and reboot.

Or just run "init 3", install the driver, followed by "init 5".

Thanks guys, that got the driver installation to run but startx failed. I think possibly due to selinux. Tried running the chcon line from the install sticky but it failed. Said not enough attributes. Since I couldnt get the gui to start at all at that point I tried reinstalling FC5 and was going to try again, but I wasnt paying attention when I reinstalled and wrote over my windows install. This is an extra computer I'm just playing around with. I'm now reinstalling windows, then FC5. I think I'll try it without selinux. Linux is totally new and foreign to me but fun to experiment with.
Thank you very much for your help
