Default Hard freezes - 1.0-8756 AMD64 SMP dual head

Hi there,

I am regularly experiencing hard freezes with my machine. I can somewhat reproduce the problem. If directly after logging into Gnome, I start an application and push some buttons or scroll using the mouse, the system hangs. After a short period of time, the mouse can be moved again. I am using Logitech diNovo Media Desktop in hci mode. Please find attached the log information. Possibly a short explanation of the Xid codes will point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Florian

Does this problem also reproduce with the previous 1.0-8178 driver?
What kind of motherboard are you using, and which BIOS version?

Can you elaborate on what a "Logitech diNovo Media Desktop in hci mode" is?

Thanks,
Lonni

Thank you for your fast reply!

I am using a ASUS A8N SLI DELUXE board with BIOS version 1016. The Logitech diNovo is a bluetooth keyboard / mouse combination which I use with the bluez bluetooth utilities in HCI mode (my goal is to turn encryption on). The short delay I mentioned could be the time, the mouse needs to reconnect to the bluetooth receiver if disconnected (maybe it gets disconnected due to what error ever).

I have not tried the older driver version and cannot right now (the system is currently under load), but maybe I will come back to that tomorrow.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi Lonni,

just installed 1.0-8178. It runs and (subjectively) looks more stable at the moment. I am going to play around a bit with gnome and other applications. If the problem remains, I will come back to you later.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi Lonni,

for 1.0-8178 it's the same. I am sorry that I cannot give you a log file since syslog-ng could not finish writing it.

Any advice?

Thank you,

Florian

I have the same motherboard here, and am not seeing this instability. My only guess is that its related to your Bluetooth hardware. Can you temporarily remove the bluetooth hardware and see if that has any impact?

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi Lonni,

if I find time to switch keyboard and mouse, I will check that. Can you please explain, what the Xid error codes in my log file mean? Possibly I could then take a look at the bluetooth source code parts and check for some interference.

Thanks,

Florian

I cannot see anything about reconnecting the mouse, but the system seems to continue working (at least ntpd).

This message would be in the syslog in case of reconnection:
May 3 01:37:06 lx hidd[6299]: New HID device 00:07:61:23:14:64 (Logitech Bluetooth Mouse)
May 3 01:37:06 lx input: Bluetooth HID Boot Protocol Device as /class/input/input5

I will try to check out if the problems remain without that bluetooth keyboard and mouse later today, but I guess that the problems are not caused by them.

I still have no idea what those Xid codes mean.

Cheers,

Florian
