Trouble installing audio driver on FC5_64
Sorry if this is not the correct place for this - I couldn't find a place to specifically ask about the nForce audio drivers for Linux.
I am having trouble installing the audio driver that is part of the nForce drivers installer.
I'm running Fedora Core 5 (64-bit) updated to kernel version 2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 on an ASUS A8n-SLI Premium with an AMD Athlon64 X2.
I successfully installed the LAN driver from the nForce drivers, which had to be rebuilt due to the kernel update. I also successfully installed an
NVidia graphics driver for my XFX GeForce 6800Xtreme from the Livna repository (not from the NVidia installer.)
The driver compiles successfully, but I get the following messages near the end of the install log:
-> Kernel module compilation complete.
-> Testing kernel module:
-> Copying test module ./nvsound/main/nvsound.ko to
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvsound.ko'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source files.
Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your
kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the
'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel source
files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the
'--kernel-source-path' commandline option.
-> Kernel module load error: FATAL: Error inserting nvsound
(/lib/modules/2.6.16-1.2096_FC5/kernel/sound/oss/nvsound.ko): Unknown symbol
in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
-> Testing completed.
Any idea what is going wrong here? Alternately, is there a source of precompiled drivers for the NForce drivers? Livna only has the graphics
