I'd suggest updating the BIOS.

Ok, I'll consider trying that. But, I would prefer to do it with at least *some* idea that it might help. For example:

o Is the driver tested on this general mobo/bios combo and known to work with dual screens without problem?

o Is there anything in the log file you see that indicates it might be a bios/mobo problem?

o Anything else?? Is this just a case of "nothing else, might as well try it"?

If I'm feeling like risking it, I'll give it a go Saturday. PC

Hey Lonni: I noticed that ACPI is turned on in my BIOS. Would this possibily create a problem? Likely, or not? PC

By the way, I updated my bios and also turned off ACPI and I'm still having the issue. The crashes also occur when I do an Alt+Ctrl+F1 vt switch. I've noticed twice in a row that I'm able to log into X with dual screens working, do one Alt+Ctrl+F1, go back to X with Alt+Ctrl+F7, and then when I try Alt+Ctrl+F1 one more time I get the crash. Anything else? I wish I could roll back to 8178, but I don't know if nvidia-glx will work.

There may also be some issue with timing. This time I tried the vt switch the 2nd time and it worked, although I left much more time between switches. Or, maybe it's just random.... ? PC
