Default No valid modes for "800x600" [solved]

:::solved: xorg server didn't use actual xorg.conf :::

I want to change my TFT's screen resolution to 800x600. Unfortunately this doesn't work (current screen resolution stays at 1280x1024.

(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1024x768"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "800x600"; removing.
(II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:
(II) NVIDIA(0): "1280x1024"
What's going on here? Why is screen resolution 800x600 not valid?
