According to this bug report, you're using the vesa X driver, not the nvidia X driver.

Thanks,
Lonni

The vesa driver works. but when i set the following in xorg.conf and init 5, it locks.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "nVidia Corporation C51 PCI Express Bridge"
EndSection

At that point, a manual reset is necessary. Once the system was back up, i generated the bug report.

I need to see a bug report that captures the failure before you start X again.

Also, did you try the suggestions that I posted earlier in this thread?

yes, i did. no effect

Based on the total failure, it may not be dumping an accurate log. Based on what i've describe, how do you suggest we generate the bug report?

The bug report should be generated after rebooting from a crash yet before starting X again.

Also, I'd like to see that the bug report includes the changes I suggested earlier.

Thanks,
Lonni

This bug report is still against the vesa X driver, and you didn't boot with the kernel parameters I requested.

Is this your motherboard? If so, you're not using the latest BIOS:

Here, with the things you requested.

I'd like to add that my previous statement that I cannot reboot is in fact false. I simply wasn't patient enough, and nothing displays on the screen during the shutdown.
