The 1.0.8762 driver leads to a system lockup on my machine as soon as i start X. The screen goes black and that's it. I can then only pull the plug. (The attached log is after crash and reboot.)
The problem occurs with all 1.0.8xxx drivers and kernel 2.6.15 and 2.6.16 (gentoo patchset). 1.0.7676 is fine, but does not compile against kernel 2.6.16 and newer. Also the problem already occured with x.org 6.8.2 and persisted after upgrade. I am not the only one having this problem either: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-3421273.html http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137473 Any ideas as to causes or solutions would be greatly appreciated . |

It looks like you're using a Toshiba notebook. This is a known issue which can be resolved with the use of the NvREG_Mobile nvidia kernel module parameter, and there are workarounds posted in other (older) threads on this forum. I'd suggest you search for them, as many others have reported success.
Thanks, Lonni |
