Hi,
I recently upgraded my GPU to 6600GT 128 MB and it is in general working fine. This is after I updated my mobo bios (MSI k8t Neo) and tweaked xorg with SWcursor and norenderextention. I can run Doom3 with high setting at 1280x1024 - but I would settle with medium quality if it would work properly. My monitor (Samtron 71S) goes in to standby mode rather often. It only happens for a few secs and I can keep moving - and getting killed while it's off. This is rather annoying. This generally happens in a rather dark place like when entering the airlock - rather peacefull place where nothing much is happening. Same thing happens with quake 4. Notably enemy territory for instance seems to work well. Same kind of blinking happens when I play a movie with mplayer (Xv). If I switch from window to fullscreen, the monitor sometimes goes blank like it would resync or something. This happens also if I fast forward quickly. If I would use -vo gl2 it would show tearing. If I then launch nvidia-settings and enable opengl sync, mplayer would just freeze upon launching. Same happens with glxgears as I would get a whopping 0.23 fps out of it. I don't know if these problems are related or not, but maybe... Any help would be appreciated! I'm on amd64 gentoo using the latest nvidia-kernel/glx and xorg7.0. As powersupply seems to be a common problem: I'm using Nexus 400W NX-4090. http://www.nexustek.nl/nx4090.htm According to Nvidia-settings gpu temperature is around 56C when idle (fanspeed usually at 20 %) and ~80 when running doom3 (fan at 100%). Any ideas? Code:

Please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log immediately after experiencing this problem.

Ok. I'll do that when I change the monitor again.
I borrowed another LCD from work today: LG L1715S. I haven't tested extensively yet, BUT no blinking in doom3 nor quake4 nor mplayer. If I enable opengl sync, I get 75 fps in glxgears as expected and mplayer do not crash, but plays video smoothly without tearing. I did not expect this... Now the little one needs attention, so I'll do some more tests later. ~L~ EDIT: opengl sync is not related as it hangs also with the new monitor when running two kde sessions. monitor and projector. With single monitor it works. Last edited by ~L~; 07-11-06 at 11:34 AM. |

mplayer bug report was taken from another yakuake terminal after the blinking.
quake report was taken from laptop via ssh when the display was constantly blinking. I played the same position with the other monitor and it plays just fine. |

I don't see anything unusual in your bug reports.
Does this also reproduce with the 'nv' X driver? Thanks, -Lonni |
