The conf file showed "nvidia" yes, but the Xorg.0.log file showed the "nv" driver. By logging out, gdm will not restart the X server unless you explicitly set it to do so. When you logged out, the X server was still running on the "nv" driver. If you actually rebooted (you didn't state you actually did, you said "maybe") then it would have been running on the "nvidia" driver.
A tip: CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE will restart the X server. |
