@flai: the NV-CONTROL attribute is called FlapanelScaling; unfortunately, flatpanel scaling doesn't work very well with 1.0-87xx in general, mileage varies between configurations. This will also be addressed in a future driver release.

nvidia-settings --assign "FlatPanelScaling[DFP]=1"
0 1 2 3 4

Eh. No good, it makes my screen flash black and then back to norma. It doesn't do centered/aspect scaled/etc. I guess this is what they mean by "milage may vary" ?

Ah well, I really really hope it works in the next release...I can't play any games till it's fixed w/o running at 1280x1024 and getting low framerates or dealing with a stretched screen in 640x480.

I have the same problem, except that on my IBM ThinkPad G41 (GeForce FX Go5200) all resolutions lower than the actual display resolution of 1400x1050 are centered and not scaled at all. This makes playing 2D games very difficult because they appear so tiny! Scaling worked correctly on the 7667 drivers and still works fine using the "nv" driver. nvidia-settings claims to change the scaling properties, but it has no actual effect.
