Hello,
I use the latest nvida-legacy-package with version 7182, und suspend to disk works out of the box with my old GeForce1. Thanks nVidia!During suspend/restore the frambuffer (vga=794 1280x1024) is blanked, but thats no real problem for me. But there is another bad problem: After turning the system on (the fan is running) and while the restore from disk begins, the cooling fan of my graphics board is completely stopped (in the same moment the framebuffer is blanked). When restore finished and X comes back, the fan still will _not_ be reenabled. It is getting very hot, and I have to reboot, to reenable it. I dont want to destroy the Hardware, but Suspendw2disk is very nice. What should I do to reenable the fan? |

Does nvclock work for something as old as your card?

No, it seems to be too old...
I tryed two different cards (one Asus 6600 and an Elsa Erazor X), both Geforce1 and they have both the same issue. I Think this is a driver-problem...Is there anyone who has a working setup for an Geforce1 card with the legacy-driver (7182) and suspend to disk? |

Just a thought, but what happens if you kill X, unload and load the nvidia module, and startx? Of course, that kind of defeats the purpose of suspend to disk, but I'd be curious to see.

You are right. Another step to the solution
Thank you. I dont even need to unload/reload the nvidia-module. Its enough to restart the X-server ... and the fan turns on. Maybe someone must say to the driver "hello again, now please start working". I also tried different other methods to make this happen, but nothing works - except restarting the first X-server. Neither changing screen resolution (CTRL+ALT+PLUS), nor starting another additional X-server on another virtual terminal does the task for me. Not even the 3D-mode activated by playing a first-person-shooter (Yes Enemy-Territory is fluendly playable with this card ... lol) changes anything. But the card gets quickliy _very_ hot. So I think its not that much fun after some minutes. I have to reboot... |

ok, i have another idea for you:
given the age of the card, you surely do not have any warranty anymore. so i would try to disconnect the fan from the gfx card and feed it w/ 12v from somwhere else. [be sure the fan runs @12v before doing this] or completely remove the headsink/fan, and place a very big headsink on it, maybe that should do the trick. |
