Hello,
I've just intalled a GEFORCE 6600GT 128MO AGP on Linux Debian 3.1 (kernel 2.6.8-2-386). The X server work fine with the generic vesa driver, but I don't have hardware acceleration. So I've downloaded and run the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run installation program. This program created a nvidia.ko module under /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/drivers/video , various libGL and libnvidia *.so files under /usr/lib/, and may be other files I have not been aware of. The installer created also a new xorg.conf file. Bun when I run startx, the X server crash with the following error messages : (EE) Failed to load module "glx" (a required submodule could not be loaded, 0) (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) No drivers available. Fatal server error: no screens found This is strange as the nvidia module can be manually loaded with modprobe nvidia (but this don't prevent the server crash). Any hints to solve this issue ? Best regards Pierre Brial |

I would add since no one ever seems to mention it that Debian has it own way of installing the nvidia drivers using the module-assistant package which works great or since you are running a Debian kernel there are most likely pre-built packages for it you can install using your favorite package manager. Perhaps that could be added to the thread you cite netllama.
