I want to tweak my cable internet connection so that it's fully optimized for the best connection/performance. Any suggestions on what I should use?
When I use to have Verizon DSL I used DSL Speed v3.04. Is there a program that tweaks cable internet instead? Last edited by Digital_Trans; 07-08-06 at 07:34 PM. |

the only time you really should play with those setting is if your not seeing the full potential of your cable line. so say you have 5 meg cable but no matter what test you use you only see say 3.5 megs then i would use it but if not then just leave it. most problems with cable systems are with the nodes them selves being over subscribed (meaning to many people and not enough bandwidth to the node).
so i guess what im really saying is. what are you really looking to do?...lower latency or get more bandwidth?.. |

Bandwidth is determined by your ISP and type of connection you have. Also, it depends on the amount of people using the shared broadband connection such as retsam mentioned. Cable bandwidth may be less than normal if everyone on your neighborhood is online at the same time.
There is not much you can do other than upgrading your service from your ISP, but that might just be a waste of money if they're overloaded anyway. Minor registry tweaks in Windows are probably going to make little or no difference at all in the long run. But if you wanted to tweak it, the setting that might help the most is increasing the TCP window size.
