Question Instalation error SUSE 10.1, nvidia GeForece 440 Go

I have recently instaled SUSE 10.1 (I am new in linux) and know I was trying to update the grafics driver.

so I downloaded this package "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run", I have followed the instruccions but something wrong.

there are two-ways instalation

first way

when I try to do via YAST, when I try to download the "nvidia-gfx-kmp-smp" there is a problem with unresolved dependences, so I cannot install.

second way
when i try to install using this instruction "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run -q", an text-style box appears and it tell me that a X-sever is running and I have to stop it to install... I don't know how to do that...

the error log is this :

nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'

Default Re: Instalation error SUSE 10.1, nvidia GeForece 440 Go

I have found the problem.

first open a console, and execute "init 3" this will shut down the X.server, then move to the directory which contains the nvidia packet and execute it.

restart linux and it will work, although it has worked for me.

see you !
