GeForce FX 5900XT performance on GLXGEARS

Hello,

I obtain this performance with glxgears

6772 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1353.897 FPS
6894 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1378.351 FPS
...
between 1200 and 1600 fps with this config:

P IV 3 ghz
GeForce FX 5900XT
screen DVI
resolution:1680x1050
color depth: 24 bits
XORG 7.0 Debian

1°) Do you think this is a normal result for this config?
2°) And why glxgears always hangs my computer (not only X) after a few seconds or when it 's going on the background?

Glxgears is not a benchmark, try real games or whatever opengl programs you plan to use. If the program works at something faster than 1fps then the drivers work fine.

Please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log if you're experiencing instability.

I have a 5900SE which is basically a XT with Xorg 7 on Debian running at 1600x1200 I get ~6000fps but as has been noted unless you are having problems with the GL apps the results are meaningless. For the freeze problem try Option "RenderAccel" "false" in the driver section of your xorg.conf.
