Hi,
i have a problem in installing the latest 8762 nvidia driver on SuSE 10.0: installation fails after building kernel module with the message: Code:
Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s). Please see the log entries 'Kernel module load error' and 'Kernel messages' at the end of the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for more information. Linux version 2.6.13-15-default (geeko@buildhost) gcc version 4.0.2 20050901 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux) Installer log is attached to this post. I've tried to search posts with similar problems, but i've not found smth useful for SuSE system. So, linux gurus, give me plz some advice what to do..? |

The 1.0-8762 NVIDIA Linux graphics driver release does not support your GPU; please use 1.0-7182.

Another error with 1.0-7182:
Code:
The runtime configuration check failed for the library 'libGL.so.1.0.7182' (expected: '/usr/lib/libGL.so.1', found: '/usr/local/lib/libGL.so.1'). The most likely reason for this is that conflicting OpenGL libraries are installed in a location not inspected by `nvidia-installer`. Please be sure you have uninstalled any third-party OpenGL and/or third-party graphics driver packages.

You'll want to either uninstall the OpenGL libraries in /usr/local/lib or adjust /etc/ld.so.conf such that /usr/lib takes precedence (and run `ldconfig`).
