Don't count on it! I have a Philips TV, and I have the schematic diagram.
In my TV, the first thing happening behind the DVI input is converting digital to analog! Then the analog RGB is fed into the switch matrix where the selection between the different inputs is made (SCARTs, VGA, "DVI", Color decoder, Teletext etc), and after the matrix it is converted to digital again.

Further issues, like the levels used for black and saturated on DVI (two options possible) can mean more trouble.

I have a Sharp Aquos which definitely does not include its 1366x768 mode in its EDID data. Here are the options I use that get it to work with recent drivers:

Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = native"
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "true"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidDFPMaxSizeCheck, NoEdidMaxPClkCheck, NoMaxPClkCheck, NoHorizSyncCheck, NoVertRefreshCheck, NoEdidDFPMaxSizeCheck, NoEdidModes"

Try them. I won't pretend to know which ones made it start working!
