There's no need to move files around manually if the xserver-xorg-dev package is installed prior to installing the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver using the .run installer; the xserver-xorg-dev package includes the information required by `nvidia-installer` to determine where the X driver components need to be installed.

Thank you Zander.

The fact is that my problem started after updating Xorg and another packages. This is why I use that aproach, but again thank you, I didn't know I must istall the dev package before.

Regards

Installing the -dev package helped a lot too... after some thinking, I come to the same conclusion : this was due to Xorg 7.1...

Interesting for debian users : a precompiled for 2.6.16-2 module is out in testing. Works nicely here.

Anyhow, thank you all for your help/interest in the subject

FWIW, future NVIDIA Linux graphics driver installers will warn if they detect Xorg 7.x and can't reliably determine the correct installation path for the NVIDIA X driver components; they will also choose reasonable default paths in this case (i.e. not /usr/X11R6/...).

Hey,

Complete newbie here, I've managed to update and re-build my FC5 kernel and run the install. Like others on this thread I'm getting the glx and nvidia modules not found. I was able to verify that the glx module didn't get loaded by viewing the log.

(II) LoadModule: "glx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 0.2
(II) Loading sub module "GLcore"
(II) LoadModule: "GLcore"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module GLcore
(II) UnloadModule: "GLcore"
(II) UnloadModule: "glx"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(EE) Failed to load module "glx" (a required submodule could not be loaded, 0)

So, I need to install the xserver-xorg-dev package I think? Could someone help me out by sending a link to an rpm? Otherwise, where do I get the package and how do I install it?

@mrstoney: judging from the error message you posted, the GLX extension module that's being loaded isn't NVIDIA's; please reinstall the driver.

Thumbs up Re: Module not found error (debian, 1.0.8762)

Thanks Roburfreak! Including the x-module-path worked for me too.

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run --x-module-path=/usr/lib/xorg/modules
