I went through the proceedure for 1.0-7182 legacy drivers. Followed the
instructions for my xorg.conf file. I have a Vanta/Vanta LT chipset, so it tells me. I'm running xorg 7. The card in is the normal video slot, so it shows up on PCI 1:00.0. (which is the AGP?) Evernthing seems okay, an then the Xorg.log file ends in (EE) No device detected. Anybody have a clue? I knew I shouldn't have upgraded from Breezy Ubuntu to Dapper! Thanks |

the nvidia-bug.log is too long for a post. Shall I email it to you?

Can you try adding this line to the Device section of your xorg.conf?
BusID "PCI:01:00:0" Thanks, Lonni |

Yeah, tried that, but it didn't work.
Is there anything about (II)PCI: Found 0 domains? Does that mean anything? Is there something messed up? All I did was upgrade from Ubuntu Breezy to Dapper, then got the notice about Nvidia licensing tainting the kernel, and spent the entire night trying to get what used to work beautifully to nothing but a console nightmare? I don't think I can head back to Breezy very easily. Anything else? I'm totally at a loss on this one? |

The 0 domains may be the issue, however immediately below that is the real issue, where the X server's scan of the PCI bus is not finding your videocard, even though the kernel sees it on the PCI bus just fine.
So this looks like it might be an Xorg bug, however its not an nvidia driver bug, since the driver can't do anything with hardware that the X server isn't finding. Another possibility is that you're hitting a BIOS bug. If there's a newer BIOS available, you should try applying it. Thanks, Lonni |

Yep, I am going to assume you are right. I just tried to go back to brezy, which it didn't do much, but then back again to Dapper, and I find in the apt-get dist-upgrade it wants to upgrade xserver-xorg-core. This must have just showed up, because I did then entire upgrade last night.
So, the result? Voila! It works. Thanks for bothering with me and my stupid problem. But, I still liked it better when it just worked out of the Debian box without all the lawyer based crap. You probably own my first born, becasue I didn't read the license agreement before clicking on it. Take my wife instead. I'll proably stay away from these cards in the future. Thanks again. |
