Default Forcing "unsupported" metamodes

So this is my problem. I have a GeForce4 MX card with dual VGA out. The card can handle two displays at 1280x1024, but the linux driver wont do it.

If I set the meta mode to "1280x1024,1280x1024" it just gives me a single screen with 1280x1024, if I set it to dual 1024x768 it works fine.

So is there a way to get the drive to go into a mode it doesn't think it should? Or is the driver really unable to drive that resolution on this card?

Here are some snippet of what not for you.

xorg.conf
Code:
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Dual"
        Driver "nvidia"
        VendorName "nvidia"
        Option "TwinView"

        Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "56-76"
        Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf"
        Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024,1280x1024"

Please remove the "ConnectedMonitor" option from your X configuration, start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

You didn't start X with the command that I provided.

I did too. Rather, the command you provided verbatium didn't work, since you had dashes all over the place.

I started it with startx --logverbose 6

Ok, I realize the error of my ways. I missed the space, got it.

Ok, so I tarballed the log file so it would upload, but of course you can't uload tar.gz files, to its extensioned with a zip even though its not. Hope this is an ok format for you. If its not, I can do something else.

Sorry, thanks.

Here's the problem:

(II) NVIDIA(0): VertRefresh : 56.000-76.000 Hz
(II) NVIDIA(0): (HorizSync from SecondMonitorHorizSync X Config Option)
(II) NVIDIA(0): (VertRefresh from SecondMonitorVertRefresh X Config
(II) NVIDIA(0): Option)
(II) NVIDIA(0):
(II) NVIDIA(0): --- Building ModePool for Acer AL1916 (CRT-1) ---
(II) NVIDIA(0): Validating Mode "1280x1024":
(II) NVIDIA(0): 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz
(II) NVIDIA(0): Mode Source: EDID
(II) NVIDIA(0): Pixel Clock : 108.00 MHz
(II) NVIDIA(0): HRes, HSyncStart : 1280, 1328
(II) NVIDIA(0): HSyncEnd, HTotal : 1440, 1688
(II) NVIDIA(0): VRes, VSyncStart : 1024, 1025
(II) NVIDIA(0): VSyncEnd, VTotal : 1028, 1066
(II) NVIDIA(0): H/V Polarity : +/+
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Mode is rejected: HorizSync (64.0 kHz) out of range
(WW) NVIDIA(0): (30.000-63.000 kHz).

Fixing the range you specified for SecondMonitorHorizSync & HorizSync will resolve the entire problem.

Thanks,
-Lonni

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. I thought I had the sync ranges set correctly, shows how much I know. Sorry to have it be something stupid like that, but thanks a lot for you help.
