Default Version 8178 works; 8762 does not - HDMI wide screen

Hi, the last couple of releases of the linux drivers have not worked for me. I have a GeForce FX 5600XT connected to my Pioneer plasma screen via a DVI to HDMI connector. Using the 8178 drivers works & I can get 1920x1080 resolution. Using the 8762 drivers (with the same xorg.conf file) does not work, and I can only get 720x480 resolution.

I've tried playing with settings to no avail. Is this a configuration issue, or a bug?

I also have an overscan issue I've been trying to find an answer for for a year or so, and apparently others here have as well. Any info most appreciated.

Here's my xorg.conf file. I can supply the Xorg.0.log files for both drivers upon request. Thanks in advance.

I had some problems with my TV when installing a new version, and it turned out that instead of ConnectedMonitor you now have to use UseDisplayDevice.

Other than that, 1920x1080 works OK here (via VGA).

I'm afraid this doesn't fix the problem. Here's the difference in the logs:

And from the 8762 driver:

So, as you can see, none of the EDID modes get validated with the newer driver. Any further help most appreciated.

I tried 1920x1080 using a dvi->hdmi cable just last friday. That was a 7600 driving a Sony VPL-VW100. Worked for me. That was both with and without autodetect (UseEdidFreqs "true" and "false" - and setting Mode).

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

Here is the log file. Had you provided instructions on how to generate it, I'd have gladly followed them.

Here are the problems:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Mode is rejected: Only 60 Hz VertRefresh modes are allowed
(WW) NVIDIA(0): for this TMDS encoder; this mode had VertRefresh 50.0 Hz.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Mode is rejected: VertRefresh (120.1 Hz) out of range
(WW) NVIDIA(0): (49.000-61.000 Hz).
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Mode is rejected: Only 60 Hz VertRefresh modes are allowed
(WW) NVIDIA(0): for this TMDS encoder; this mode had VertRefresh 50.0 Hz.

You can attempt to workaround them with the AllowNon60HzDFPModes and NoVertRefreshCheck parameters to the ModeValidation option. See the driver README for more information.

Thanks,
Lonni

Using those ModeValidation options did the trick. Many thanks.
