Default System acting strange after sp2 install

Ive only very recently re-installed sp2 after a system cleanup and its screwed up some stuff which i dont know how to fix.

User accounts in control panel doesnt work and if i put my system on standby then turn it on theres no user name to click on so i have to restart. windows update page doesnt work it keeps not responding and alot of internet sites look very weird. no graphics just text on them which is very annoying.

What have i done wrong??

Please help

Ive tried going back but nothing happened!

I cant even see my avatar on this site. theres just a red x there??

The same thing thousands of other people did, installed Service Pack 2 over an already existing (corrupted?) Windows installation.

Properly integrate SP2 into your original Windows XP installation files, then format hard disk and reinstall. You should now have a nice clean Windows installation with SP2. Just like if you went and bought retail copy at the store today.

It could, but you may have had a problem before, it just didn't show til you installed sp2, or it was an older installation maybe? Either way, a slipstreamed disk + fresh install is best, but if that won't work for some reason, then a fresh install followed by sp2 and updates is best.

If you want to go the slipstreamed route (and I highly recommend you do), before you burn the final disc, go here and download the post SP2 hotfix update pack, the integrator software, and follow the instructions on the site. Then those will be incorporated into your install CD, further reducing the downloads you need from Windows Update. I've used the pack before and as long as you've properly slipstreamed SP2, you will have no problems. Good luck.

Yes, I've used that pack as well. Quite handy since the Windows Updates take a dreadfully long time.
