I got told by someone on IRC today that my sarcasm detection outright sucks.

Default Re: Temperatures

not been sarcastic,

I would like to know if this is a wide-spread problem and if people at nvidia can "reproduce" it on their hardware.

I own a laptop (centrino) which i bought for being quiet and having a nvidia gpu. However i have the problem of the fan blowing at almost full speed all the time... could be a bios issue - the latest available, could be the gpu overheating for no real reason...

I do not have windows, under linux are:

nvclock -i

-- Sensor info --
Sensor: GPU Internal Sensor
GPU temperature: 124C

acpi -V

Thermal 1: ok, 46.0 degrees C

Ubuntu Dapper on a Vaio VGN-115M, GF6200go TC
(i guess the nvclock read is wrong...)

Regards
c.

Forgot to say that the drivers are the one provided in the ubuntu reps: 1.0-8762

Do not know if people are interested in this "issue"...
just to add one more data point:

Dell Precision 380
QuadroFX 3400 256MB PCIe
Ubuntu Dapper kernel-2.6.15-26-amd64-xeon

CPU idle 98.3%(Just surfing the net, no XGL or stuff)

nvidia-settings gives me:
Core Temperature: 68 C
Ambient Temperature: 50 C

No windows to compare with, but surely somebody out there has ...
c.

as in the previous post, drivers from ubuntu repos: 1.0-8762

I also said this earlier myself, why would you see anything? Otherwise our systems are working as they should.

Yeah I got tha zalman VF 700-cu

I had a PNY 6600 GT, I had problems with it crashing, here were my temps:

Stock Cooling:
Idle: 90C Load: 135C (would quickly crash)

AS 5 put on stock:
Idle: 75C Load: 125C (eventual crash)

AS 5 core/mem underclocked from 500/900 to 450/850:
Idle: 70C Load: 115C

Heatsync tied with cable ties to put more presure (stock clocks):
Idle: 70C Load: 109C

Zalman cooler:
Idle: 42C Load: 54C

Zalman cooler, stock 500/900 overclocked to 607/1125:
Idle: 42C Load: 58C

So, comparing zalman to stock cooler in the stock settings, my idle temps dropped 48C, meaning that the stock ran 2.14x hotter, and at max load, the difference was 77C!!!! (a whopping 2.32x with stock compared to zalman)

The stock reference 6600GT cooler was a curse. This is why companies like MSI used a slightly better all copper design of their own and such.

I'm sure Zalman sold plenty of VF700's when that card came around.

I have two 6600GT (Gigabyte NX66T128D)

one with the stock cooler.
Idle / Load
38C / 58C

the other one with a VF700 CU.
39C / 56C
