Arrow Re: black line on right side

I appear to have fixed the black line on right side problem on my SP6100.

Following every posting here and everywhere else, I had originally tried putting various options under "Device" in xorg.conf which didn't work After messing about with various other options I somehow managed (random accident, late at night, etc) to put this line under Section "Monitor" in xorg.conf

Option "IgnoreEDID" "true"

my section "Monitor" reads as follows:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
HorizSync 30-90
VertRefresh 60
Option "IgnoreEDID" "true"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Monitor Model"
EndSection

To double check I commented out that line and the black reappeared. Uncommented and it disappeared.
Also, the HorizSync and VertRefresh are required - I commented them out and the black strip reappeared.

Try it. Good luck

Note: system config
Toshiba Sat Pro 6100, Gentoo, 2.6.10 kernel, xorg-x11 6.8.0-r4
gentoo packaged nvidia driver 1.0-6629

I've the problem on my debian sarge into Toshiba Satellite 5100/603 but I see the same problem into the same machine but booted in WinXP so seems to be a geneal driver's problem and not only for linux.

Hi, I'm having the same problem on my Satellite 5105-S501. I've tried virtually every solution (NVreg_Mobile, IgnoreEDID, UseEdidFreqs...), and they either didn't do anything or caused a weird split-screen. (In the "split-screen", the system did report that it was running at 1400x1050; however, it's impossible to do anything since the even lines are on the top half and the odd lines are on the bottom half.) Any other suggestions on how to get this card working with the NVIDIA drivers?

I am in the same boat with macddd and Gerbilsoft. I add the IgnoreEDID line and get this weird split screen. I am using the latest version of the driver. But I have had this problem since the beginning of the 6xxx series. Anyone have any updates on this thread?

Great! Thanks to everybody for publishing and helping others!
I had the same problem on my S1410-802, and now it works! Couple days of sh**ty work, but now it is fine I was really fed up

All description is here:

Also there is some comment about resolution, cause the black strip was not the only one problem.

Regards! Have fun!

I have a toshiba 5105-s501. The black strip can be removed with the IgnoreEDID option, but then you wind up with the split screen issue. This has ben a problem since the 6xxx series. The only solution I've found is to either use a 5xxx driver, or use the generic driver.

I'm dual booting Knoppix hard-drive install (Debian) and Windows XP for a while and I had the same problem. Well, not exactly. A black line on the _left_ side of the screen appeared when I booted to Linux, so I removed it by adjusting the horizontal position of screen using the display controls (not using Toshiba, I have no idea if they have those). Every time I booted I had to switch them over again. Recently I installed nvidia drivers on Linux, and the black line appeared again (this time on the _right_ side), so I removed it as usual. But when I booted back to XP, I realised that the black line was gone. Well, what am I trying to say, is that the driver corrects the screen position back instead of breaking it. I also installed nvidia's drivers on xp, the black line didn't appear after the install. Linux just detects monitor settings somehow differently.

If this is completely not the case and totally off topic, I apologise

Hello! <waves>

Just one thing I noticed playing around with my Benq FP931 Monitor with the same problem:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=75363

IgnoreEDID did not work for me (Using xorg-x11 7.0-r1)
So I poked around a little and found another option to play around with:
Code:
Option "UseEDID" "false"
Just add that option to your Device section instead of using IgnoreEDID option
Remember to have both HorizSync and VertRefresh as well as some modelines in your monitor section, since the missing EDID data has to be replaced with something else.

Example:
Code:
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Monitor0"
        HorizSync 31.5-90
        VertRefresh 59-75
        ModeLine "1280x1024" 135.00 1280 1296 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync
        ModeLine "1024x768" 78.80 1024 1040 1136 1312 768 769 772 800 +hsync +vsync
        ModeLine "800x600" 49.50 800 816 896 1056 600 601 604 625 +hsync +vsync
        ModeLine "640x480" 31.50 640 656 720 840 480 481 484 500 -hsync -vsync
EndSection
Remember, this is just an example and might not be the right modelines for your monitor. But feel free to test.
