Is it possible she just had that disease where people get older but never really age much? Like Gary Coleman.
Pretty interesting though... they named her a "Hobbit" and said she probably fought Comodo Dragons and giant rats... sounds like an RPG to me ![]()

http://www.nature.com/nature/focus/flores/ Not sure if I would be surprised at the finding of a new species of hominid that might have existed. Unfortunately, don't know how to contact a former roomate that was an archaeology grad student. Doubt he lives on campus. He did show me some things from one of his archaeology text, including a Homo sapien about 520,000 years ago. What he was refering to might be referenced in this page http://hypertextbook.com/facts/1997/TroyHolder.shtml Needless to say, there were many sub-species to Homo sapiens in the fossil record which aren't in the funneh's ![]() |

Isn't it a stretch to declare the discovery of a new species of human based on just one fossil? How do they know she wasn't just a regular person with a growth deficiency, we have people like that today.

Given the number of hominids who existed in the past, another species wouldn't be inconceivable. Too bad I'm not sure how to get ahold of that former roomate of mine anymore. He'd no doubt have something to add, such was some of the convs we used to have...
What's even wilder was question about whether Neanderthals completely died off, or whether to a limited degree they inter-bred with Crow Magnon's somewhat. Favoring such a possibility is that Neanderthals and Crow Magnons lived around the same time, and their fossils weren't always found that far apart. Also, that people of European dissent have some features in common... But such as been a debate that had been going on for some time... |
