OK, I ask because I was just at a Chinese resturant tonight, and umm I don't get it. So I walk up to the Mongolian barbeque, put the stuff on my plate, put the right amount of sauce (the chef's secret sauce, whatever that's supposed to be, but I've ate there before so have had it previously), hot pepper sauce, some garlic and what not. Mind you, I like a lot of flavor with my food.
So the person starts cooking it and all is fine, until ugh. She gets the fricken water countainer and starts dousing my food with it. When she lifts it up, but before she starts pouring it, I'm like "no, no water. Please, no water". So she looks at me almost skeptically as she's pouring the water on my food and is like "you don't want water?"; in a tone of voice that is indicative of "don't believe anything this guy is saying, he doesn't know what he really wants or something". I'm asking her to get the water off of there, and finally end up reaching over (the sauce is out like anything else in a Mongolian barbeque for the customer to put on the plate) and putting the sauce and hot sauce back on my food. She's like "that's OK..." Umm, I'm trying to explain it was not how I liked it ![]() Then about all she says is "too hot, too hot". I'm trying to explain "but I want it hot", "I like it hot", and finally "my sinuses are stuffed, I want to clear them out" Actually since moving out here to New Mexico (one year since, actually), I developed seasonal allergies...hence the stuffy sinuses, and well my eyes too...When I finally get my food, she's still insisting it will be too hot for me, and one last time I tried explaining that I wanted it hot, and I like my food to have lots of flavor. She looks at me again like I don't know what I'm talking about and "you do?" tbh, when I was eating it, it could have had a tad more flavor and all to it, then it did in the end... The usual chef had figured out that I don't want my food watered down, but I had this with him in the past too. The plate was soggy, and it tasted like I was eating baby food it was so blan. I just couldn't eat it... Why do some assume that I need my food watered down, or that I want blan food? tbh, my taste buds have also somewhat changed over the years (or lost some of their sensitivity). Things that weren't great, but OK when I was still living at home (such as Hamburger Helper), have about the same amount of flavor to me now, as chewing on a piece of cardboard would. Just not very pallitable to me...So what about the rest of you? |

i've noticed that too.....when i've been to chinese restaurants they cook food differently for the chinese customers than they do for the rest of us....i say this because when i've gone to a restaurant with some of my chinese friends the food they serve tastes completely different than when i've gone with no chinese friends.....i asked my friends about it and apparently when they order they specify how they want it cooked....
