Default The Brazilian Grand Prix (warning, results will be posted)

the third to last race of the season, the Brazilian Grand Prix! all Alonso needs to do is finish in third place and he wins the championship, becoming the youngest ever to do so. so, can he do it this weekend? i hope his engine blows, since i don't want the last two races to mean nothing.

Toyota is only 10 points behind Ferrari for third. can they overtake them? the F2005 is uncompetitive whilst Toyota has a much better car. other stories to follow are what Rubens, Massa and Heidfeld do, since all are changing teams next year. also, Sato mayt be fighting for a ride (Williams has an opening) whilst JV will like to stay at Sauber-BMW.

preview http://www.formula1.com/race/news/3618/748.html

some news:

alas, Sir Frank caved and the best driver in F1 (never to win a race) got his wish and will stay at BAR, after having reportedly pay around $30 mill US to stay. sigh. the selfish crybaby got his wish. at least Sir Frank extracted his pound of flesh. however, if there is one good thing about this move is that it likely means the end of kamikazee Sato in F1: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=137069 and : http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=34122

Heidfeld will join BMW next year, likely teaming up with JV, who has one year left on his contract (unless he gets bought out, but he has posted some good results this year so he may stick around). although Webber is the current Williams driver sited as being the best of the two, he is only one point ahead of Heidfeld. so much for all that talent: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=136479

and the award of understatement of the year goes to: Ross Brawn! the F2005 was not up to the task! well duh, we kinda guessed that already, since they are in third, have been eliminated from both championships, and are being caught by Toyota: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=136381

Jordan believes that Williams made a mistake by signing with Cosworth, saying that the big suppliers are where to be. hmm. Cosworth. they supply engines to Champ Car (V8s) and had pretty good success this year with RBR: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=136419

despite the fiasco at Indy this year, the race will return in 2006: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=34115

Rubens, smoking some good cannabis, thinks that he can become world champ. what, did he get an advance copy of EA's F1 2006? cuz that's the only way he'll be champ: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=34123

BAR: no team orders next year. unlike this year, where Sato was instructed to crash into his opponents? http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=34117

as expected, the McLarens were really fast, with Wurz and JPM 1-2, and Kimi in 6th. the Saubers were quick, with Massa in 4th and JV in 7th. the rest of the top ten include Tototas, and Ferraris, both teams fighting for the 3rd position in the championship. that should be a good fight. the Renaults were off the pace in practice, with Fisichella in 10th and Alonso in 11th position: hopefully, this trend continues. The BAR's Button in 17th and Sato in 20th, and Williams and RBR were also well behind the pace.

Wurz is just the test driver for McLaren. Zonta, in 3rd, is test driver for Toyota. on Friday practice, test drivers are allowed to do as many laps as they can, gathering data for the team, testing out different car set-ups, etc.

Alonso has the pole, followed by JPM and Fisichella. Button is in 4th and Kimi in 5th, after making a mistake, locking up his tires, and losing valuable 100s of a second. it looks good for Alonso to win the driver's championship tomorrow. however, there may be rain for the race--if there is bad weather, that may be the great equalizer, and really mess things up for Renault.

JV was penalized when his team changed a part in parc ferme without first getting the approval of FIA, so he had to start in the pits. somehow, JV will be blamed for that mistake. he needs some good finishes, since while he thinks he'll be with BMW next year, the team has not made any decisions on him yet: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=137451

wow, both Williams knocked out of the race. sucks to be them

Fernando Alonso the new Formula 1 world champion.

Didn't like him but he definitely deserves the win.

While McLaren took the lead on the constructors championship.

JPM 1st, Kimi 2nd, but Alonso in 3rd wins the championship. Alonso becomes the youngest driver ever to win the championship, and beats the most dominant driver ever in the sport, Michael Schumacher (who?). still, this is good for the sport as Schumie is not getting any younger, and may soon leave altogether, so F1 needs new heroes, like Alonso, Kimi, etc. but, next year ... can Alosno repeat? will Ferrari return to glory? will Kimi be sober enough to drive?

i agree mikechai: i'm not a fan of Alonso or Renault, especially the windbag Flabio, but they were fast, reliable, and survived a tough season, and Alonso won. but it's still not over, as McLaren may yet win the constructors title. so, cheers for Alonso, but go McLaren!

I like Alonso, he has a good brain and sees the bigger picture. Kimi, so far, only seems to be able to drive flat out. Alonso is more like Schumacher - who understands that there is more to winning the championship than just driving fast.

The reason Kimi can only drive flat out, is because Mercedes Benz doesnt give him that luxury of driving smart. The engine or the tires are always blowing. He HAS to drive fast to make up the difference. I've seen Kimi drive smart. remember '03? Wasnt it like less than 10 points for Michael winning the championship? or was it '02? Kimi would be champion if his team would give him reliable cars.
