Default Q&A: Naughty Dog's PS3 Project

THere is a new interview with Naughty Dog developers..

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/710/710266p1.html

THe graphics are very detailed...

What is even more impressive is the game in action ,is so rich the variety of animations and physics and their quality that makes the game to feel very real like a movie. .People call it the next generation pitfall game..Sounds good. .

Did the guy trip over the table or something? I don't see any shots fired.

That screenshot reminds me of the Source engine. Don't know, maybe it's the lighting a bit flat or the the texture art direction....

You mean Hl2 ?

Dude they arent remotely close , As good as HDR look still the Source engine is not at the level of this game or many others next gen games from Ps3 or Xbox360. Selfshadows or perpixel lighting ,neither realtime reflections is used.

Looks pretty weak to me, texture quality looks especially low. Aside from the self shadowing and resolution, it looks like an Xbox game.

Watch the game in action and then eat your words... the game looks far better in motion then in the screenshots.

While it doesn't look bad, it is nothing fantastic, by any standard.

Pretty much if Halo 2 was running at high resolution, yes:

The Xbox version of Chaos Theory at high resolution would be a be a closer match though:

-------------------------------------------------

But anyway, enough about how it compares to last gen games. In motion, it does look a bit better, although indoor areas still seem pretty bland from what I've seen. Outdoors are fairly good, with some very nice background details (particularly the plants) and a good shadowing system. But the characters all seem to have this dull, pasted-on look, as if they're only half-affected by the surrounding light (especially noticable in screenshots).

They really do need to ramp up texture resolution, the models themselves are quite good, but the textures just look monotone. Some bumpmapping that was up to Splinter Cell Chaos Theory standards would probably have a remarkable impact on the game's overall look. A small upgrade to that and a lighting system that flowed better between indoors and outdoors could probably help the game tremendously. Oh, and some anisotropic wouldn't hurt, either.
