Default Piercings and tats: Why?

OK I don't get it. What is the big deal with piercings and tattoos now?

I graduated in '95. Some of my classmates might've had one or two tats and/or one or two piercings. But it seems like damn near everyone now in highschool or around that age has to have at least 5 piercings and 4 or 5 tats. Often they get pierced in the belly, the nose, the mouth (multiple), and the eyebrows. And the ears? How about sticking something through one end AND the other. No, a simple ear ring isn't enough any more.

I think it's gross when they go to far with it. A little bit is OK - but WOW.

I never found a good answer for this. My neice is as or more dropdead gorgeous than many in the babe thread, not good enough. She gets tats and her tongue pierced. Now she talks funny, but why? No sense to me

I love piercings, no real reason other then I find them attractive. I personally have had two in my eyebrow, one in my lip and still have my tongue pierced.

No, I don't talk funny. I don't have a lisp or some weird accent now.

Guys I want to be clear.

10 years ago this was not anywhere NEAR the phenomenon it is right now. Why did it get so trendy, all of the sudden like this?

I've had my tongue pierced for about 7 years now... I never thought it trendy but maybe it might be where you live. The only reason I don't have any external piercings anymore is due to work, if they accepted it I would still have my eyebrow pierced and my lip.

I just like them, I really have no reason for it. When I see a girl with piercings I just cant look away.

I don't agree with that at all.. most people never know that I have a tongue piercing. My roommate of 3 years never knew I had my tongue pierced till about 4 months ago when I yawned near him...

I didn't get my first piercing until about June four years ago...wow...I can't believe it's been four years...anyway, I got my left cartilage pierced with an 18-guage loop.

I just did it because it was kind of a rite of passage, I guess. I was no longer under my parents' jurisdiction, so I wanted to celebrate.

Then, about this time four years ago, I got both my lobes pierced with 16-guage loops. I still have them, I still love them and still consider getting more.

I don't mind it in moderation. But when a girl has several in her ears, two or three in her face, and a couple more elsewhere it does disgust me. Tats, similarly, are OK with me as long as it's in moderation and nothing to wild.

It just seems like it's very, very trendy to me right now with the highschool and college age crowd. And I don't know why it's like that.

It could just be my area, I don't know. It wasn't like that in CA when I went to highschool anyway. But around here, and especially now, practically everyone seems to be doing it.

Maybe is a culture thing & certain people got used to it.
for me , i really find it gross & disgusting but that could be just me.
i mean .. i dont like it in a serious way that i might avoid making friendship with anyone who pierce if i ever meet one in real life however good he/she turn out to be or his/her intentions.

note : i'm talking here about piercings only. tattoos are ok by me if used properly & didnt go over the limit.

I think excessive tats on girls is gross. A small one is ok... dunno about piercings.

We know you have a giant NVIDIA tatoo on your left buttcheek.

Nalugirl told us so.
