With almost every upgrade that comes out, there is alot of garbage that comes with it. Ive read alot of the problems here from vista and no SLi, to crashing installs with new hardware, to no new drivers out for xp since November.
Im getting real sick of this crap and the issue is greed. companies are in a hurry to release products with bugs and don't even support them like their supose to. Ive decided to end the upgrade battles and just use my PC for it was origally made for, word processing and the web and a few minor things. There is way to many issues with new hardware these days. ASUS released a board, dubbed the P5N32 and that was a disaster for them. Hell they even pulled it from their site but still have older boards in their product database since the P4 478. ASUS claimed it was a mistake and released the SE to fix all the problems but they blame it on the Nforce4 which look what that did with XFI. People had trouble for over a year with XFI but now its fixed and working fine. The 7800GTX when it came out had lots of problems as with those of the 8800. Nvidia is way behind when it comes to driver support and info on ther new stuff. Motherboad manufactures can't release a board that lasts no more than 6 months cuz of technology and issues. Product cycles are way to short to spend more money. I hope something bad happens to the hardware industry and wakes them up. Its a scam for people to have to keep upgrading every 6 months for crap that isn't any better than before and im not talking about performance, im talking about the headaches to getting it right. I still have a 5900xt and a p4p800 and it works just fine with the same OS for 4 years with no format. But i use the machine for minor things but i may make it a main system again cuz of the anger toward low quality control on new hardware. Think about it, you heard it from the bigman, and the bigman is always happy to see ya.

No-one is forcing anyone to buy new hardware components, most of us buy knowing fully aware that there could be issues, it is just a risk that you need to be willing to take.

Ive been buying hardware for years, i mean since the 80's. When the win95 days came out with stuff like the Monster3d, the AMDk6, and EDO ram, i never had issues with hardware. It worked out of the box.
Today you hear people upset with issues that aren't being addressed as quick as their supose too. When the 3DFX voodoo3 came out, the only problems i had was it ran hot, but with a pci slot cooler, it worked perfect. There is way to many veriables to consider these days but they could take a little more time in the "Quality Control". Thats the biggest problem with OEMS. people card about what came out years back unlike today, all they care about is the payoff. Yea granted there are alot more things to consider, but it would be nice to get something new that has good drivers supporting it. Problem is and was is, Nvidia came out with a chipset and back than they made drivers and tested them before public release, but now they release the hardware than make the drivers for it leaving us to suffer with the bugs.

And I suppose every newly released os was perfect?
Every driver was perfect? Every game was perfect? If this where the case, updates and patches would not exist. It comes with the territory. You don't mock the voodoo 3 for having to go out and buy a third party component so it will run right. But you mock drivers because they are not 100% mature yet? And for a new os thats been out for a week? I play every game fine in xp with my month old computer upgrade, and have no problem with anything else. Is there a law stating you have to run Vista before the kinks are worked out?

Bigman - if you're so old school then you should remember the "good ol days" when 3DFX cards came out and 3 games supported them... or how you needed several different DOS boot disks for various games.... or how "easy" it was to install hardware in DOS or 3.11... or how "stable" gaming was when Win95 came out...
I bet there were just as many issues, if not more, back in the day. It just wasn't as easy to make your opinion known or build consensus. BBS... Prodigy... etc... no thanks.

I stopped upgrading like that mainly because I wasn't getting enough for what I paid for. I didn't really care about 3DMarks, or anything like that. What ever makes my games look good and smooth, and keeps me productive at work. I don't need every generation of cards, etc. for that type of performance. So I skip a generation or two. It's been working out fine for me. If you're worried about flaws or lack of support, here's a simple solution: Don't buy it when it first comes out. Let it marinate for a bit. Simple as that.

I really don't understand why some people feel such an intense desire to install it. What's the point? I mean, other than to just screw around with it. It's not like it's potential benefits are very tangible at this point. XP - things just work.
