A study of nine Florida coastal areas suggests many bays and estuaries will be inundated by 2100 due to sea-level rise from global warming.
The survey, commission by the Florida Wildlife and National Wildlife federations, projects if global warming continues, a resulting sea-level rise would dramatically alter the extent and composition of important coastal habitats and fishing, as we know it, could disappear in a matter of decades.

The study included Pensacola Bay, Apalachicola Bay, Tampa Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Ten Thousand Islands, Florida Bay, Biscayne Bay, St. Lucie Estuary and the Indian River Lagoon.

Based on a projected 15-inch rise in average sea levels during this century, the study found nearly 50 percent of critical salt marsh and 84 percent of tidal flats would be lost. The area of dry land is projected to decrease by 14 percent, or 174,580 acres, and roughly 30 percent of ocean beaches and two-thirds of all estuarine beaches would disappear.

Among the species considered most at risk are Bonefish, Flounder, Gag grouper, Gray snapper, Permit, Pompano, Redfish, Snook, and Tarpon, while essential habitat would be reduced for such prey species as shrimp, crabs and smaller fish, researchers said.
what a crock of ****. do they realize that these are coastal areas and their temperatures are probably affected by streams and currents? do they realize that across most of the rest of the US, temperatures are more mild?

global warming pisses me off, not because of theyre "lying" or whatever. it's just that the term has become so cliche and such a buzzword that i really dont want to ever hear the word again. just say "global temperature differentiation"

the sea rises because of the temperatures rising... expanding water and melting glaciers... i'm sure you can argue if global warming is man made or not, but to say that this is bull**** because of mild weather elsewhere in the US is a bit far fetched? also the local weather in florida is not mentioned at all in your quote. just the sea level rise.

True. The globe is warming, that is a visable measurement. It is just a matter if it is a natural cycle or man made.

The only problem is that this "15" projection" of rise in sea levels by the end of the century is at the very top end of the projection scale. More likely, according to the IPCC, sea levels will rise between 3 and 4 inches by 2100. So far it has not been shown that there was any accleration of sea level rise in the 20th century, though the chicken littles are trying mightily to figure out a way to make such a claim. In fact, sea level rise has been relatively steady over the last 3000 years. There was a small acceleration in the 1900s.

When articles cite figures from the very high end of the scale it comes off as fearmongering and alarmism, which is what most of the global warming scenarios seem to be. Maybe if they'd learn to stop crying wolf and stop overstating their case more people would pay attention? Then again, if they didn't overexagerate nobody would listen because there'd really not be much to be alarmed about.

btw, for a non-Ice Age period, sea levels are at their lowest in any period in the Earth's history since the Permian-Triassic era. Just a little anti-hysteria sea level trivia for ya.

You do know melting glaciers will result in the water expanding right?

Have you measured the seas? Its basic science really. The melted glaciers produce water which in affect will add to the water already there. There is no question about that. Weather there reason there melting is because of global warming or just the earths cycle is another thing.

I saw a documentary on the discovery channel a while back that was showing some smaller island nations in the pacific where high tide now floods pretty much the whole island where just 15 years ago the shore line at high tide was literally several football field lengths away.... so I'd have to guess they have risen some. Once places that wealthy people live and visit become threatened (marths vineyard, Sanibel Island, the keys) and their multi-million dollar vacation homes are at risk, this will become a much bigger issue.

lol, you guys are the ones crying about the fact that the sea levels are going to rise because of the melting glaciers, we havent see any of that....

"You guys". I could give a **** really about global warming. Just pointing out that you're wrong. Regardless we all here now will be long dead before it all really effects us. And hell, I think it would be cool if the world flooded over. Maybe we will develop lungs are something. Either way chances are a comet will hit us before a world wide flood or ice age.

and yet you came on and tried to back him up with little to support your claim...
