Default Legacy Raid 0 or errrr non Legacy Raid 0?

I'm trying to set up 2 hard drives in a raid 0 config on a silicon image raid controller. My choices are:

1:- Set up the raid in the controllers bios (which sounds great to me). But this limits me to "legacy" raid.

2:- Use the provided windows app to set up raid which gives me the choice of "legacy" or "new" type raid.

Whats the difference? Is (1) hardware raid and (2) software raid?

Default Re: Legacy Raid 0 or errrr non Legacy Raid 0?

Hardware should be faster I believe. Why not try both and bench?
